Heirloom

A site specific installation originally commissioned as part of the artists residency at Castello di Monticello d’Alba, Italy in 2016 and later recreated at Asylum project space London.

Dennis chose the Ballroom to stage this intervention, taking her lead from the many ancestral portraits which were hanging in the space, she imagined the conversations and celebrations that must have taken place. Acting as a pseudo medium, intuiting the thoughts of the many humans which have inhabited the space, Dennis inscribed automatic writings onto oversized helium filled balloons. The balloons are displayed tethered to objects collected from around the castle.

Castello di Monticello d’Alba is located a few kilometres from Alba, in the centre of one of the food and wine areas of Piedmont. Since 1372 to today it is owned by the same family, the Roero di Monticello.
